Ryobi Tek4 Right angle driver

Client:  The Home Depot
Skills:  Tooling Design, End User Research, Problem Solving, Design for Prototype, Mechanical Engineering

Project Scope:  To create the most compact right angle driver powered by a Ryobi Tek4 battery pack.

Product Recipe

Combine one part Ryobi 4v driver, with another part 18v Ryobi right angle drill, mix in a pinch of love, and sprinkle consumer research.  Bake for a few weeks in SolidWorks and hopefully the end result is an awesome product that gets taken to lunch with the Home Depot buyer.

Mechanical and prototype development

Our product development team requested a fully functional sample to take out into the field to conduct user research.  That required the LEDs and rotating head to be working as well.

Final prototype and Production part

You know you've done a good job when the final product closely resembles the prototype.  Being able to consider industrial design requirements along with engineering needs allows companies to bring products to market even faster by creating early initial buy-in and eliminating risk.
